How to Properly Clean and Detail Your Golf Cart

Cleaning your golf cart is part of regular maintenance. Golf carts need to be cleaned regularly to prevent damage to their exterior and to boost their appearance. Therefore, cleaning them properly and as part of an overall care routine should be part of your regular maintenance schedule. Read on for more tips on how to clean and detail your golf cart as you go beyond mechanics. If you need assistance beyond your DIY capabilities, reach out to us for golf cart services in PA.

Gather Cleaning Supplies

Before you begin the process of deep cleaning or detailing your golf cart, it’s important to gather all the supplies you will be using. This means gathering dish soap, water, mold or mildew remover (bleach), aluminum cleaner, polish, sponges, towels, and more. When choosing supplies, make sure that anything you use will not harm the surface of your golf cart. Check and make sure it is safe on all surfaces on which you will be applying, and don’t apply it to surfaces for which it is not approved.

Select Your Detailing Location

The location of your detail job might not seem that important, but for the best results, choose a place that is free of clutter and where you can get to all sides of the cart easily. Also, concrete or gravel surfaces tend to be better for this type of job than grass, as grass can get muddy and messy when it gets wet. Also, when washing off your golf cart tires, you can easily wash off weeds in your yard, which can then become problematic, so cleaning on a hard surface, not on grass, is ideal.

Remove All Items

As you know, your golf cart is designed with plenty of options for storage. Consequently, if you are like most, your golf cart is full of random items. Now is the time to remove these items, which will give you unhindered access to every inch of your golf cart.

Clean The Plastic

The next step when cleaning your golf cart is to carefully wet it while staying mindful of electrical parts. Therefore, ideally, instead of simply hosing it down, you will instead use a towel and apply a solution of water and cleaner to the plastic surfaces, and wipe them down. Don’t forget to get into all the nooks and crannies, including the dashboard and the cup holders. When you have completed this, and before it can dry, wipe it off using a clean wet rag. As part of this step, after you have cleaned the plastic, you can apply a color restorer or polish on the plastic to help it regain that like-new look.

Clean The Aluminum

The next step is to address the aluminum parts of your golf cart. Look for cleaners that are made to clean aluminum, ideally, that spray on or a cleaner you can apply with either a towel or sponge. Apply the aluminum cleaner, then carefully rinse it off or wipe it off with a wet cloth. Then, you can use aluminum polish if you want to create a detailed-quality look.

Address The Mold and Mildew

Last but certainly not least, when cleaning and detailing your golf cart, you need to address and combat any mold and mildew that might be present. You can use a cleaner that is specifically designed to remove mold or mildew or make your own cleaning solution with two parts of water, combined with one part of bleach. Apply the solution and then rinse it off with a clean, wet rag.
